The biomaterial will have an added value, as it will be enriched by microbial and vegetable biostimulants. The results of BBPlug have the ambition to reduce food waste, the use of plastics and fertilizer by developing a biomaterial that is highly sustainable and able to improve horticultural production. The project will be developed in collaboration with an Advisory Board of corporate stakeholders. The BBPlug project aims to respond to several important needs and critical issues affecting society and the world of production: i) the high production of waste in the food chain, in particular those generated by the fresh vegetable food industry (fruits and vegetables) ready-to-eat defined fourth range foods; ii) the need for a transition to a circular economy in the agri-food sector, where processing waste becomes a resource for the production sector, iii) the need to reduce the production and use of single-use plastic tools in favour of biodegradable and environmentally friendly materials, resulting in environmental benefits and the generation of new job opportunities in the emerging bio-sectorplastics; iv) the need to improve the yield of agricultural production by developing sustainable agriculture that exploits biological and bio-based resources.https://bbplug.unimi.it/wp-content/uploads/sites/35/2022/10/Figure-1_da-sottomettere-e1666951378937-1024x656.jpg
